New Products

I have been playing around with some designs to add to my shop. These designs were actually made  just before the holiday season. I thought now would make the perfect time to add them since spring is finally upon us.

For many years I have sold two dimensional magnets, but I decided to try my hand with some fun three dimensional designs. Magnets are really good sellers when I exhibit at local arts festivals.

I don't know why I keep thinking of designs about the home, but I am just drawn to this theme. I'm sure it is because I am a stay at home mom. I thought a plaque would make a good product to carry in my Etsy shop and to carry at some local galleries that sell my work as well.

When I have been running around with various activities with my kids; it sure is nice to come home and relax. Well, sort of with three kids.

God bless!

Polymer Clay Jewelry

I wanted to share my process in making some jewelry for myself. I have lost several of my favorite pairs of earrings these last few years. So, I decided why not make a some of my own.

A little over twenty years ago I was first introduced to polymer clay at my local art store. I decided to give this medium a try. I loved the fact that you could bake the clay in your oven. I had not worked much in clay before really since grade school. I never thought I would be any good at three dimensional work.

Many years had passed since I used the clay again. I started using Sculpey again about five years ago.

Both of my necklaces were made with a mold.

I usually work with white Sculpey, but I decided to use terra cotta for a nice effect.

First I condition the clay with my hands to soften it up.

Then I use my pasta machine to get the clay nice and smooth.

Then I press the stamp into the clay, then cute out my shape.

For my flower, I used an x-acto blade to cut out the shape.

The necklace and earrings were cut out with the circular cut outs. Then I inserted the jewelry findings into the clay. I baked the clay according to the instructions on the box.

After the clay had dried I applied acrylic paint. I used a lighter purple, then a darker purple for the flower. For the earring set, I just brushed some gold paint over some areas of the pendant and earrings. The final touch was to seal the jewelry with an acrylic varnish.

Christmas Products and gifts

This past week I have been busy creating a few new products for the gallery that sells my work. I also decided to make some gift tags and magnets for gifts for neighbors and friends. I saw some really great ideas on Pinterest, and decided to give it a try. All of my products were made with polymer clay. I really love the versatility of this medium. It gives you that ceramic look without having to use a kiln.

What homemade goodies do you make for family, friends, or co-workers?

Spring Collection

Here are a few of my little spring birdies, flowers, and Easter eggs before they head off to the gallery next week. I am hoping to make a few more for the spring and Easter products.

I so enjoyed making them as I reflect on the new season that is quickly upon us. The joy of watching all of God's glory come forth as the flowers gently break forth in almost a quiet song.

I dropped off these little cuties off to a local gallery that carries my work. They will also be available in my shop later today. I decided to have a giveaway of one of my little guys to one of my lovely readers. So, if you want one of these little birds to fly to your home, just post a comment of what's your favorite thing about Christmas. I will announce the winner on Friday evening!

Creating with Polymer Clay

I love working with polymer clay and enjoy making ornaments that I give as gifts to teachers, neighbors, and family members. My youngest son's teacher had a piece of artwork that had a blackboard, apple, and a few other teacher items on a desk in her classroom. I decided to make this ornament specially for her. I will personalize this with her name on the blackboard.

I also made a few fall themed ornaments as a gift to a friend, and for decoration for my home. I am about to place these pumpkins in the oven. What do you think?

My Birdies Have Laid Eggs

I have been working with polymer clay for the last couple of weeks and having fun creating all sorts of things. A thought popped into my head since I have birds as a theme, why not create eggs. So that is what I have been doing creating all sorts of shapes of eggs and even a sculpture of a bird. I will be uploading them in my shops soon.

Christmas Ornament

Since we are all trying to stay on a budget these days, I decided to make some Christmas gifts for my kids teachers. I usually make personalized stationery, but I decided to experiment with Sculpey polymer clay. I had not used this in a while so I decided to give a try again.
