Elf Caught on Shelf

I don't know if you have kids, but last year my child's teacher told them about the magical elves. They come at Thanksgiving and stay a day or two after Christmas and keep your child company. All you have to do is leave a note asking for an elf to come from the Northpole, leave a snack then pray they come. Well, after you get one you better leave them a snack every night or they get into alot of mischief while your sleeping. As you see from this picture our elf was not fed so he took matters into his own hands when we found him in our pantry the next morning.

Christmas Ornament

Since we are all trying to stay on a budget these days, I decided to make some Christmas gifts for my kids teachers. I usually make personalized stationery, but I decided to experiment with Sculpey polymer clay. I had not used this in a while so I decided to give a try again.

Unique Pillows

Since I can not sew a straight line at all I got this idea about 7 years ago to make a pillow, but not the traditional square shop. I played around with a little prototype and then started making larger sizes.

This week I want to feature unique pillows which can make a great accent piece to a bedroom, living room or any room in your home. These are pillows which I have created.

Norcross Art Festival and other stuff

I have been meaning to show pictures of my last show a couple of weeks ago in Norcross. I walked this show last year and determined that this show fit my style of art. So I applied and got in the show! The show is very well organized with very helpful volunteers. The city of Norcross is very quaint with cute little shops and restaurants. There are several new lofts in the area for that downtown feel. You almost feel like your in downtown Atlanta. Even though the sales were definately not as much I had hoped (bank failures happened the week before) I would like to give it a try again next year.

Suwanee Day Festival

I exhibited in my first fall show this past weekend. Suwanee Day Festival was packed with people. My husband who makes circuit board clocks shared a booth with me. The crowds were pretty steady the whole day. I just sold only small items and my husband sold several clocks. The tear down took way too long, it was actually a nightmare. Our kids were able to help us some when they weren't skateboarding all over.

I was supposed to take a pictures of my booth, but forgot because of all the craziness. This is an older photo of my booth. My booth was much more filled compared to this picture.

To top it off the festival ended with lots of music and fireworks for a great ending. We saw the spectacular fireworks at home from our window.

HGTV Househunters

I got an email from church that the new Worship Arts Director and his family will be featured on Househunters. Several years ago when my youngest was a baby I was shall we say addicted to HGTV! I am a big fan of this channel! Unfortunately I no longer have this channel in my satellite package anymore, but I am so glad I know someone who is on one of the shows I used to watch. HGTV Rocks!!

Macrame' Is Back!

It is soooo hot outside and the kids are getting restless. I'm not sure what to do, so I decided to go on Youtube to find some instructional on crochet and also macrame'. My daughter and I have had so much fun trying different techniques. We then went to the library and I checked out a book about macrame'. This craft used to be so popular when I was a kid. It's nice to see it making a comeback among the crafters. Last Saturday I woke up and thought my daughter when be on the computer (her usual ritual) but to my amazement she was working on a macrame' bracelet. It's a miracle!! She is even talking about opening up an Etsy shop once she gets better at it.

Here's the book.
There are also good demos on Youtube. Check it out

Thank Heaven for Little Girls

I finally started to paint my daughter's room with a mural. I'm actually only going to do a spot mural due to the fact of limited time due to the fact I am a mom of three active children. I started with an inexpensive Liquitex acrylic paint for the base boards. The entire baseboard has grass sprouting forth, to give it an outdoor feel. I have also drawn butterflies in various places on the wall. I will show you my progress from time to time until completion.

Funnel Cakes!

"Can we make funnel cakes?" was my daughter's reply. I have never made funnel cakes before, my only experience with them was at art festivals and carnivals. So I searched the internet for a recipe. The recipe was so easy to make and it ending up being a fun activity for us to do together. The recipe only made about 5 funnel cakes, so next time I am going to double the recipe for more. I did not use a lot of oil, but I used a deep frying pan. I also flipped it over so it was lightly golden brown on both sides.

Here is the recipe if you would like to take a shot at it!

Funnel Cake
Ingredients
1 egg
2/3 cup milk
1 1/4 cup flour
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking powder

Directions:
1. Beat egg and milk. Mix all other ingredients and slowly add to the egg mixture, beating until smooth.

2. Using a funnel, drop into hot oil working from center outwards. Remove from the oil when golden brown and crispy.

3. Sprinkle with powdered sugar and serve.

Living Creatively

After many years of dragging my husband to art festivals and exhibiting myself in art shows he started creating clocks. He is an engineer and designs circuit boards at work. He started to transform these parts that would other wise be thrown into the trash. I tried not to say anything, but I had to put some suggestions in. He at first was not to open to the idea, but then allowed me to use my creative talent. Voila here is the result!

My husband Todd's motto: reduce, reuse, recycle.

Another Birdie!

I am continuing on with my series of fanciful bird series. Birds come in all different shapes and sizes. They are a beauty to behold. I believe they reflect God's awesome beauty and grace. I hope you enjoy my take on these beautiful creatures!
I look forward to creating more of my creatures as I prepare for art festivals in the fall. I hope they bring tons of smiles to those who see them.
I hope my birds express my passion for art like Laurel Burchs' cats have for many who have followed her career over the years. I have long been a admirer of her work! I was so sad to hear she had died last year, she was truly a talented artist.

Another Birdie!

Why Fly Note cards

It has been so crazy lately with my kids end of the year activities. Finally the summer vacation for us has started, so hopefully I can include more items in my blog now.

I have created some new note cards from my original work. My fanciful birds are a perfect little note to send to a loved one, or friend.
I'm looking forward to this Memorial Day weekend with all the festivals and other fun activities in the area. I wish you all a safe holiday!

Check out my etsy shop, I'm always adding new items.

New Image titled "Eden"

I have been working on this new image for several weeks now. I wanted to have my fanciful birds in a forest setting. I loved working with all the different shades of color and texture. I was happy with the way it turned out. Prints are available in my Etsy shop and soon I will have note cards of this image also. Each image I am creating I try to push my self a little further as I get to know my bird a little better. Hopefully I hope to convey joy and love of God's beautiful creation!

I have been wanting to update my blog with a new image. I hope you like my new addition to my collection of fanciful birds. This little guy is sure to stir up trouble.

My Children's Art!

My children created some artwork at school in their art class that resembles batik. I was so proud how the images turned out. They used some acrylic or some tempra paint and the outline in Elmer's glue. Can't you tell I'm very proud of them? Maybe some of my talent is rubbing off on them.

Bird with an attitude

I have got a new fella to my series of birds. He is quite the character. I hope you like him as much as I do.
